Siding is important for protecting your home from the elements, controlling the climate inside, and making it look great. So if it’s time to replace your siding, it’s important to weigh all your options before your local siding company starts working on your home. At Pro Exteriors, our goal is to keep your home in great condition so it can keep your family safe and comfortable while looking great from the curb. You have multiple options when it comes to siding materials, but three of the most popular are vinyl, wood, and fiber cement.

As a siding company, we know a thing or two about your options. In this article, we’re taking a look at the pros and cons of three common siding materials.

Vinyl Siding

Many homeowners have opted to replace their wood siding with vinyl, and there are many good reasons to do so. First of all, it is often the most affordable option, both to install and maintain. It is quick and easy to install and requires very little maintenance. You don’t have to paint it, and it’s resistant to decay, moisture, and insect damage. Vinyl is, however, prone to cracking and fading over time and is not as durable as some other materials. And while vinyl siding does come in several colors and styles, it is not as customizable as other siding options.

Wood Siding

Wood siding is the traditional choice, and despite its drawbacks, we understand why. Its appearance is natural, traditional, and familiar. You can paint or stain it in any color, and it is relatively easy to repair or replace it. Wood is also a renewable resource, making traditional wood siding environmentally friendly. The drawbacks to wood siding, however, are significant. Wood requires regular maintenance, including painting, staining, and sealing, and is susceptible to decay, moisture, and insect damage. It is also more expensive compared to vinyl siding.

Fiber Cement Siding

Fiber cement siding combines many of the benefits of wood and vinyl siding. Fiber cement is incredibly durable and long-lasting and is not only resistant to moisture and insects but it is also fire-resistant. This type of siding is also suitable for most buildings as it can be made to look like wood, stucco, masonry, and other materials. Unlike vinyl siding, you can paint fiber cement, allowing for more customization. Compared to wood siding, fiber cement also requires much less maintenance. It is, however, the most expensive of these three siding types. The material itself is expensive and must be professionally installed.
