Roofing Contractors Are Getting Ready for Fall

Every season comes with unique challenges for roofing contractors. With the ice and snow, winter is the most exciting season for potential roof damage, but fall poses many of its own problems. It’s the time of year when leaves, needles, acorns, and other debris are falling on your roof, leading to issues that may not be apparent right away. At Pro Exteriors, our goal is to keep your home in good repair so that it can continue to protect your family. And that starts with your roof.

Follow these simple steps to make sure that your roof is ready for fall.

Clean the Gutters

It probably isn’t news to you that cleaning your gutters is an essential part of roof maintenance. If your gutters are clogged or overflowing, that can cause water damage to your roof. Rot, curling shingles, and mold growth are all problems that come from poorly-maintained gutters. In the fall, a lot more leaves and debris end up in your gutters, so it’s important to clean them out before fall is in full swing.

Trim Back the Trees

You’re not going to be able to eliminate all the trees from your yard, and you wouldn’t want to even if you could. But what you can do is trim back the trees that are close to your roof. Wind will blow a few leaves from other trees onto your roof, but you can keep trees from dropping them directly onto your roof. If there are any branches that extend over your roof, you should cut them back. You should keep an eye on any trees that are very close to your house, anyway, because they can drop branches or even fall, causing serious damage.

Clear Away Debris

If there is any debris currently on your roof, you should clear it off before the leaves start to come down, or at least before it starts to snow. Any debris that is stuck on your roof can keep it from drying out completely. If your roof remains damp, it can grow mold or spring leaks. roofing contractors
