3 Signs It’s Time for a Gutter Cleaning

Now that it’s summer, it’s time to get around to all those projects you’ve been putting off. But sometimes, some of those projects require calling in a professional. Gutter cleaning is one of those things, especially if you’ve been putting it off for too long. If that’s the case, it’s time to call in Pro Exteriors. But how do you know if your gutters need a professional cleaning and possibly even some repairs? Well, we’re glad you asked.

Here are three signs that it’s time to call in the pros for a gutter cleaning.

Overflowing and Leaking

Your gutters do a lot to protect your roof, foundation, and siding. It might not seem like it, but collecting and directing rainwater to that it can drain away prevents a lot of damage to your home. If your gutters are overflowing and leaking, water is not being drained away from your house properly and can cause water damage later on. Sometimes you can find and remove clogs on your own, but if there’s too much buildup it’s best to call in the pros. They will also inspect your gutters to find leaks and they can then repair or replace the damaged sections.

Mildew, Mold, and Moss

Any time something starts growing in your gutters, that means there is stagnant water that is not draining away. Mold and mildew can easily spread and start to cause problems inside your house as well as out. Moss can move from your gutters to your roof and loosen or even break the shingles. You can clean away and remove moss, mold, and mildew from your gutters, but you don’t want to risk it coming back. You will also need to replace or repair your gutters so that they drain properly and don’t create the conditions for things to grow.

Plant Growth

Moss and mold aren’t the only things that can grow in your gutters. Seeds can settle in your gutters in the spring and take root there if there is debris sitting in there that you haven’t cleaned out. Dirt and roots tangle and cause clogs that are difficult to remove. If debris has been in your gutters long enough to start growing plants, that means it has been there long enough to cause other damage, too. Having someone like Pro Exteriors do a professional gutter cleaning is your best bet because they will also find and repair any other damage.
